När de första italienska ultrasgrupperna bildades mellan 1967 och 1971 uppstod ett helt nytt sätt att stötta det egna laget. Nya uttryck i form av flaggor, rök och sång skapades på fotbollsläktarna och våldsamma sammandrabbningar blev vanliga mellan olika grupper. Sedan dess har fenomenen och kulturen spridits och inspirerat supportrar runt om i hela världen.

I sitt föredrag berättar Sébastien Louis, genom fotografi och film, om den italienska ultraskulturens historia – om dess olika faser, relation till politikens, fotbollens som landets historia. Han ger en bild av en rörelse som på många sätt reflekterar det italienska samhällets utveckling, utan att kunna reduceras till detta.

Sébastien Louis disputerade 2008 med en avhandling om ultrasupportrar i Italien. Sedan dess har han regelbundet publicerat artiklar om denna ungdomsrörelse och talat om ämnet vid konferenser i Europa, Asian och Afrika. Hans första bok Le Phénomène ultras en Italie publicerades 2006. 2017 publicerade han boken Ultras, les autres protagonists du football. Sedan 2014 har han samarbetat med ett antal internationella museer kring utställningar om fotbollssupportrar.

THE HISTORY OF ITALIAN ULTRAS

The historian Sébastien Louis takes us beyond the usual clichés of violence and political extremism in the stands. He highlights the different faces of the ultras movement, its internal conflicts and hidden histories.

When the first Italian ultras groups were formed between 1967 and 1971, a completely new way of supporting their own team emerged. New expressions in the form of flags, smoke bombs and songs took form in the stands and violent clashes became common between different groups.

Since then, the phenomena and culture have spread and inspired supporters around the world. In his lecture, Sébastien Louis tells, through photography and film, about the history of Italian ultras culture - about its different phases, its relation to politics and the development of the football industry. He gives a picture of a movement that in many ways reflects the development of Italian society, without being able to be reduced to this.

Sébastien Louis obtained his PhD in 2008 with a dissertation on ultra-supporters in Italy. Since then, he has regularly published articles on this youth movement and spoken on the subject at conferences in Europe, Asia and Africa. His first book Le Phénomène ultras en Italie was published in 2006. In 2017, he published the book Ultras, les autres protagonists du football. Since 2014, he has collaborated with several international museums on exhibitions about football supporters.
