Gaza is an important part of global heritage as a historical melting pot of cultures and people. Gaza has historically suffered numerous crises including a 17 year long crippling siege. Presently Gaza has become a place where hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing war and the level of catastrophe is unimaginable on all levels.
The aim of this series of seminars is to focus on Gaza and its heritage from different perspectives, and to show Gaza and its history from a different viewpoint than the one we see in the news.
This panel will critically explore the interstice of cultural heritage, commemoration and violence. Based on both personal and professional experiences, we will discuss how memories and layered experiences of isolation and displacement have moved to the core of Palestinian identity and heritage.
