Following the recent major political upheavals in the Middle East, Lebanon sees an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen its own state. Hezbollah has been weakened, yet the country still lives in the shadow of regional developments in Syria, Iran, and Israel–Palestine.

You are warmly welcome to a public seminar on Lebanon’s prospects for greater independence in the region. Caught between neighbours, regional powers, and Hezbollah, Lebanon faces multiple challenges. What role does Hezbollah play today, as reduced support from Iran has weakened its grip on Lebanon?
Can the Lebanese state free itself from foreign interference and become a sovereign and neutral country? And how do developments in Syria and the Israel–Palestine conflict shape Lebanon’s chances of moving toward greater stability?
The seminar features a conversation with leading scholars researching Lebanon and the Middle East. After the discussion, the audience will have the opportunity to pose questions to the panel.
