For home loan orders and renewals, please contact the librarian. Books may be returned during the normal opening hours of the Mediterranean Museum, even when the library itself is closed. Returned books must then be handed in at the Information Desk in the entrance lobby of the museum.

LITERATURE SEARCH

A large part of the books found at the Mediterranean Museum Library can also be found online via the book search site MEDEA. MEDEA consists mainly of literature from 1975 onwards but also include some older and retrospectively catalogued literature.

Search for books in MEDEA.

CATALOGUE – 1974

Material acquired prior to 1974 are catalogued on cards that can be searched for in digital form in the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities' Catalogue –1974

LIBRIS

All books in the Mediterranean Museum Library are listed with the national library database LIBRIS. The library books are given two different library codes: Mmb and Ax. The code Mmb refers to the Mediterranean Museum's own books while code Ax refers to books from the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities. However, all books listed under these two codes are kept in the same place and handled in the same way. All book titles listed with LIBRIS can also be found via the online book search site MEDEA.

Some of the Mediterranean Museum Library's book titles have never been catalogued and can only be found on the bookshelves of the library. Accordingly, a visit to the library is recommended when a specific title or author is sought, even if a search via MEDEA or Catalogue – 1974 does not produce any results.

Archive

The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities archives document the Swedish excavations and expeditions in the Mediterranean, that were the source of the museum's current collections. For example there are archives from the Swedish Cyprus Expedition (1927-1931), but also information regarding the Egyptian and Greco-Roman collections in the museum.

The archives are open for visits by appointment, Monday - Friday 9 am - 4 pm. Please contact Monica Sargren.
